RAWALPINDI: An accountability court on Friday accepted a plea bargain request by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in the multi-billion Lucky Ali scam.
In October 2019, NAB Rawalpindi had recovered Rs1.95 billion from the management of a housing society after an investigation. The bureau reached a plea bargain with film director and producer Lucky Ali, real name Mian Waseem Ali.
These societies were advertised in the electronic and print media without being registered with the Rawalpindi Housing Authority. Ali lured people into investing in these illegal housing societies and embezzled the money.
NAB had received more than 9,000 claims against the fraudster. He used eleven different names for the societies notably the National House Buildings and Roads Development Corporation which was investigated by the bureay.
During investigation, Ali accepted the crime and submitted an application for plea bargain to Investigation Officer Seemab Qaiser for return of the total liability to NAB. The plea bargain application has been accepted by NAB to the tune of Rs1.95 billion.
NAB said the money recovered will be given back to the fraud victims. Ali married Punjabi film star Anjuman in 2019.
