ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has planned to reduce or abolish the Federal Excise Duty (FED) for the juice industry in the coming budget.
As per sources, the budget markers of the FBR have been reviewing budget proposals of different companies for the next fiscal year. According to the proposal of the industry, currently, the juice industry has an annual turnover of Rs45 billion.
The regulations of the Punjab Food Authority stated that the fruit drinks have minimum of eight percent fruit content, nectars have 25 to 50 percent fruit content, and pure juices have 100 percent fruit content.
In particular, fruit drinks, juices, and flavored milk are promoted as healthier options by food authorities across the country for consumption in schools and colleges.
Furthermore, this industry is working closely with the farmer community for their uplift and prosperity, by buying and using surplus quantities of fruits such as mango, orange, apple, guava, etc in large quantity.
Last year, the juice industry procured 100,000 tons of mango for conversion into a pulp from local farmers, hence positively impacting the livelihood of thousands of farmers.
