Very hot, dry weather forecast across country

KARACHI: Very hot and dry weather is likely to prevail in the in most parts of the country on Sunday, the Meteorological department has said.

The maximum temperature is expected to range between 40 and 49 degrees Celsius in most parts of the country.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), hot and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country, including Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad.

Karachi city is expected to experience the suspension of the sea breeze in the port city today, said PMD report.

Director PMD Sardar Sarfraz said hot winds blowing from the desert areas in the northwest of the country will further causes an increase in the temperature in the metropolis, however, temperatures will be cooler in the evening and at night.

The temperature in Lahore recorded 43°C while in Karachi and Islamabad the temperature is likely to go up 49 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, doctors have advised citizens to take precautionary steps to protect themselves from the heatwave and to stay indoors amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Karachi went through a three-day heatwave in the first week of May, where the temperature shot up to 42°C.

Last year, Karachi witnessed a series of heatwaves that saw residents avoiding venturing out during afternoon hours and remaining indoors.

In June 2015, about 1,200 people had died in southern Pakistan during a heatwave, with nearly two-thirds of the victims’ homeless people.
