WASHINGTON: A total number of 258,339 people around the world have now died from coronavirus, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.
Around the world, the pandemic has infected over 3,727,802, while 1,242,388 patients have recovered from the pandemic so far.
The death toll in the United States continues to surge with 70,847 deaths and 1,201,337 cases. The US continues to lead worldwide cases and deaths from the virus. The country reported an increase of 2,350 deaths in the past 24 hours.
With 160 deaths in a single day, Canada reported 4,043 fatalities and 62,046 infections due to coronavirus. Italy, which recorded its first coronavirus death at the end of February, has 29,315 fatalities, with 236 people succumbing to the disease in the last 24 hours.
Coronavirus deaths in the United Kingdom have surpassed the 30,000 marks, the highest in Europe, according to official data.
Spain has recorded 25,613 fatalities with 168 in a single day and 250,561 infections. France has reported 330 deaths in a single day, taking the tally to 25,531 deaths and 170,551 cases.
China has declared 4,633 deaths and 82,883 cases, with 77,911 recoveries in the country. Turkey reported 129,491 coronavirus cases and 3,520 fatalities.
Over 155,370 people have infected while 1,451 people died of the virus in Russia. In Belgium, 8,016 people succumbed to the disease while Brazil reported 7,938 deaths due to the coronavirus.
Israel has reported 16,289 coronavirus cases while 238 deaths. Meanwhile, the death toll is 6,340 in Iran as the confirmed number of cases is almost 99,970.
