Quetta doctors call for 20-day curfew to prevent coronavirus

QUETTA: A group of young doctors of Quetta, affiliated with different medical facilities, have called for a 20-day curfew in the city to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Addressing a press conference in Quetta today (Sunday), the doctors have demanded a complete lockdown in the city and urged the government to address the issues related to ventilators and oxygen.

Quetta doctors have also appealed to Prime Minister Imran Khan to announce a relief package for the affected health workers.  

They said that the provincial government would have to make tough decisions in the face of the unprecedented health emergency.

The doctors urged the people of Pakistan to pray and stay at home during Ramazan in order to keep the coronavirus at bay. They also urged people to take precautionary measures.

The young doctors have also urged the traders’ community to keep their businesses closed. They said that business was not important to human lives.

Quetta doctors also termed the provincial healthcare system as ‘flawed’ and said that the provincial government hasn’t provided any personal protective equipment (PPEs).

They also said that there were ventilators present in the hospitals but no oxygen. The doctors stressed the need for stepping up coronavirus tests in the province.

The federal government is moving towards ‘smart lockdown’ in coronavirus hotspots, as the demand for the stricter lockdown restrictions to prevent coronavirus is growing louder.
