SIALKOT: Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting, Firdous Ashiq Awan has expressed disappointment over the masses’ failure to grasp the seriousness of the coronavirus threat.
Addressing a press conference in Sialkot today (Sunday), Firdous Awan said that the Centre and the provincial governments were performing their duties, however, the public was still not fulfilling its responsibility and was not taking precautionary measures.
Referring to the frontline doctors, Firdous Awan assured the paramedical staff that the provincial governments were working on incorporating doctors’ recommendations.
She said, “I would like to express that the doctor is the most important personalities in the war against the virus,” adding, “We can only win the war against coronavirus through doctors’ help.”
The Special Assistant also urged the people of Pakistan to implement the 20-point plan agreed with ulema and said that the government will ensure mosques do not become virus hotspots.
Commenting on the testing capacity, Firdous Ashiq Awan informed that the government aims to increase the country’s testing capacity to 20,000 tests daily by May.
The Special Assistant said, “The increase in the number of patients was also due to increased testing capacity,” adding, “More tests means a higher number of patients.”
“The National Disaster Management Authority also aimed to increase the number of testing labs across Pakistan through a public-private partnership,” she added.
Criticizing the Opposition Leader and PML-N chief Shehbaz Sharif, she said, “Prime Minister Imran Khan is constantly urging to refrain from doing politics on the virus but some persons are busy in point-scoring.”
She further said that no government can defeat such a big challenge unless the government and opposition unite. She urged the opposition to join hands with the government to tackle the novel coronavirus.
