KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Wednesday acquitted MQM-Pakistan (MQM-P) leader Amir Khan in double murder case after 17 years.
In June 2003, MQM-P leader, Amir Khan was charged with assisting the targeted killing of two activists of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Mohammad Naeem and Anam Uzair during a by-poll to a National Assembly seat (NA-255) from Landhi in Karachi.
He was tried along with the main accused, Tariq Bata, Raees and Nazim, by an anti-terrorism court, which sentenced him to 10-years imprisonment in 2004.
The SHC overturned the punishment of Amir Khan and Tariq Bata in the double murder case and ordered immediate release from jail.
The SHC also turned down the Sindh government’s appeal to extend the punishment awarded to Amir Khan and Tariq alias “Bata” in the case.
The court declared the punishment of Amir Khan and Tariq alias as null and void and ordered to set them free. Amir Khan was given bail in the double murder case in August 2009.
