Distributed ration being sold to grocery shops in Karachi

KARACHI: With affluent individuals and the government, as well as non-government organisations, scrambling to provide rations to the poor and needy hit amid coronavirus lockdown, some people have been selling the rations to grocery shops in Karachi.
These professionals gather around various welfare organizations for rations and sell them at different shops at cheap rates.
The government has neither banned nor suggested any punishment for the purchase and sale of ration for welfare purposes.
There is no mechanism in place to ensure that the only deserving people are provided with ration, making a room for the underserving people to exploit the situation to their advantage.
In this regard, 5 million beneficiaries are forced to live hungry waiting to receive government-declared rations in their homes.
Many welfare organizations are distributing rations among the poor people amid the ongoing situation of coronavirus lockdown. Earlier, the provincial government had also announced the distribution of rations.
