Doctor dies in GB after contracting coronavirus from patients

GILGIT BALTISTAN: A young physician, Dr Osama Riaz, died of coronavirus after he had contracted while physically handling suspected COVID-19 patients returning to Gilgit-Baltistan(GB) from Iran.
As per details, Dr Osama was part of the 10-member team of the doctors deployed screening patients returning from downtowns, mostly those arriving there from Iran via Taftan.
Later the health authorities of GB for giving services to the suspected patients in isolation centers set up for patient in central Gilgit. It said Dr Osama ignored his health and served the patients till late night as the patients had never been given any services before.
According to Dr Shah Zaman, a senior member of the Health Department and focal person of GB government for coronavirus, that he was met Osama at the screening center, he later finished duty and went home. He was completely alright by that time and didn’t make any complaint.
Later he was fell sick and was shifted to the Provincial Headquarter Hospital (PHQ) in Gilgit where he was put on the ventilator and he tested positive for coronavirus.
According to a doctor, Muhammad Iqbal in the DHQ, they had sent his swab to the Islamabad for the satisfaction of his family. Meanwhile, they removed him from the ventilator on Sunday night and announced him dead.
