Coronavirus: Sindh govt establishes nine isolation centers

KARACHI: Sindh government has established nine isolation centers in various cities of the province as a preventive measure against the threat of the novel coronavirus. 

According to the spokesman of Sindh government Murtaza Wahab, Isolation Centres have been established in Civil Hospital Karachi, Lyari General Hospital, Dow Ojha Campus Karachi, LUMHS Hyderabad, LUMHS Jamshoro, Peoples Medical College SBA, Ghulam Muhammad Mahar Medical College Sukkur, Chandka Medical College Larkana and Gambat Institute of Medical Science Khairpur.

The spokesman said that apart from the isolation centres mentioned below, the provincial govt has also converted one full-fledged 120-bed hospital into an isolation centre and another 100-bed hospital into a quarantine centre to deal with coronavirus.

Isolation ward at JPMC Khi has also been made functional to deal with any patients affected by corona virus. The federal government has established 35 isolation wards all over the country, along with other measures to control the spread on the coronavirus.

The Sindh government has also issued an advisory for mosques, shrines and other religious sites to prevent the spread of novel coronavirus.

According to the advisory, a timeframe would be announced for pilgrims visiting the shrines while the mosques adjacent to the shrines would only remain open during the prayer timings.

The prayer leaders of the mosques are also asked to give Friday sermons on coronavirus aimed at creating awareness among masses regarding preventive measures.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh Mushtaq Mahar on Thursday has issued coronavirus advisory for the policemen adivising them to take precautionary measures and wear mask during duty.

The policemen have been advised to keep a distance of three feet at least while being on duty with the colleagues. They have been directed to take special care of cleanness and avoid shaking hands with the general public.

Earlier Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Health Dr Zafar Mirza revealed that Pakistan now has 28 cases of COVID-19 which had been declared a pandemic.
