Islamabad: The federal government has decided to take action against government employees who promote an anti-government narrative on social media.
A decision in principle has been made to take action against those who violate the Civil Servants Conduct Rules.
According to details, the government has begun closely monitoring the personal social media accounts of government employees to identify violations of the rules governing social media use.
According to media reports citing sources, the government has decided to strictly implement the new Civil Servants Conduct Rules 2026. Personal social media accounts of government officials have also been brought under the scope of the new rules.
According to the reports, government employees involved in promoting or engaging in anti-government activities or narratives on social media will face disciplinary action. Action will also be taken against those who use fake accounts or anonymous social media posts to defame the government or state institutions.
The reports further state that government officials will not be allowed to use their personal social media accounts to promote official government work. Similarly, the use of official government accounts for personal publicity, branding, or self-promotion has also been prohibited.
