Karachi Traffic Police official suspended over alleged harassment, extortion

Karachi Traffic Police authorities have taken immediate action after a video went viral on social media showing plainclothes personnel allegedly harassing citizens and demanding money in the Tower area.

Taking notice of the video, DIG Traffic Karachi directed officials to initiate prompt action over the reported incident.

Following the directives, SSP Traffic District City Karachi suspended Kharadar Traffic Section record keeper Muhammad Hanif and ordered him to report to the police lines.

Authorities have also directed the registration of an FIR against the plainclothes personnel seen in the video.

An inquiry into the incident has been assigned to the DSP Traffic Lucky Star to establish the facts, conduct a detailed investigation and recommend further action in accordance with departmental rules and regulations.

Karachi Traffic Police said it is following a zero-tolerance policy against mistreatment of citizens, abuse of authority and illegal demands for money. The department said strict departmental action would be taken against any official if allegations are proven.
