The Punjab Assembly’s Standing Committee has directed all private schools across the province to provide free education to 10% of their enrolled students, in accordance with the law.

During a meeting of the committee, members reviewed the failure of private schools to comply with the legal requirement to offer free education to 10% of students.

Following the discussion, the committee instructed all private schools to ensure compliance with the directive within 10 days.

The committee’s chairperson warned that private schools failing to provide free education to the required 10% of students within the stipulated timeframe could face legal action, including the cancellation of their operating licences.

Committee members also recommended that the selection of eligible children should not rely solely on data provided by private schools. Instead, the School Education Department should independently identify deserving children and facilitate their admission to private schools.

The Secretary of the School Education Department informed the committee that data from all private schools regarding the provision of free education to 10% of students is currently being compiled to ensure effective implementation of the law.
