The episode, part of Season 3 of Sam Levinson’s hit series, aired Sunday and features a series of provocative scenes involving Sweeney’s character, Cassie.
The storyline continues Cassie’s troubled relationship with Nate, played by Jacob Elordi, while also depicting her attempt to earn money through explicit online content. Several scenes in the episode drew attention, including stylized shoots in which the character appears nude or minimally clothed.
Following the broadcast, social media platforms were flooded with criticism, with some viewers accusing Sweeney of repeatedly taking on overly sexualized roles. Others questioned whether such portrayals were necessary for storytelling.
The reaction stands in contrast to Sweeney’s earlier comments. In a 2022 interview, she spoke about the stigma surrounding actresses who appear nude on screen. Later, in 2024, she said constant public scrutiny over her body often left her feeling “dehumanised,” highlighting the pressures faced by actors in the industry.
