The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, commonly known as the TTP or Pakistani Taliban, is a militant organization that was established in 2007 through the merger of several armed factions operating in the rugged northwestern regions of Pakistan.

Since its formation, the group has been responsible for a devastating trail of violence across the country, carrying out attacks on a wide range of targets, including busy markets, mosques, airports, military installations, and police stations.

Beyond just launching attacks, the TTP has also managed to seize and hold territory, primarily in areas along the porous border with Afghanistan, though its reach has at times extended deep into the Pakistani heartland.

The group has historically maintained close operational ties with the Afghan Taliban, having fought alongside them against United States-led forces during the war in Afghanistan.

While the TTP and the Afghan Taliban are two separate organizations, they share strong ideological beliefs, social bonds, and linguistic connections that have kept them closely aligned over the years.

Here are the latest developments on ‘Operation Ghazab-ul-Haq’

Pakistan has long accused the Afghan Taliban of providing safe haven to TTP fighters on Afghan territory, an allegation that Kabul has consistently and firmly denied.

Islamabad has launched several large-scale military operations against the TTP within its own borders over the years, though the results have been mixed.

A major offensive that concluded in 2016 did succeed in significantly reducing the frequency of attacks for a period, but in recent years the group has staged a troubling resurgence, once again posing a serious security challenge to the Pakistani.
