The State Bank of Pakistan’s (SBP) foreign exchange reserves rose by $34 million on a weekly basis, reaching $14.34 billion as of September 5, 2025, according to data released on Thursday.
Total liquid foreign reserves stood at $19.68 billion, while net reserves held by commercial banks amounted to $5.34 billion.
“During the week ended September 5, 2025, SBP’s foreign exchange reserves increased by US$34 million to US$14,336.3 million,” the statement noted.
A week earlier, the central bank’s reserves had stood at $14.30 billion.
Last month, the SBP revealed that it had purchased $7.8 billion from the open market since June 2024, boosting the country’s reserves to $14.5 billion by the end of June 2025. While this move was intended to enhance external stability, it may have limited the rupee’s potential appreciation and slowed import growth.
