A tragic boating accident in the Shahi Bagh area of Kalam, Swat, has claimed the lives of at least seven tourists, rescue officials confirmed on Sunday.
The boat, carrying ten tourists, capsized in a river in the scenic region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Swat district — a popular destination for domestic travelers. So far, four bodies have been recovered, while three individuals remain missing.
Three tourists were rescued by residents and shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Rescue teams, supported by local volunteers, are continuing search efforts despite facing challenges due to the area’s difficult terrain and remoteness. The strong river currents are also complicating the operation.
Member of the National Assembly Dr. Amjad Ali confirmed the death toll and expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy. He extended condolences to the grieving families and instructed authorities to expedite the search for the missing individuals.
Rescue officials have urged tourists to exercise extreme caution during recreational activities, particularly in areas with limited safety infrastructure.
