Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei has said that Tehran’s participation in the upcoming round of indirect negotiations with the United States remains uncertain following Israel’s recent attacks.
Speaking to IRIB regarding Iran’s potential attendance at the sixth round of U.S.-Iran talks in Muscat, Baqaei stated that it was “inconceivable” for Iran to believe that such Israeli military aggression in the region could take place without U.S. coordination or deliberate approval.
“The other party acted in a way that effectively rendered negotiations meaningless,” Baqaei said, holding the U.S. administration responsible for the consequences of what he described as reckless and illegal actions by Israel.
Previously, on June 10, Baqaei had confirmed that the next round of talks between Tehran and Washington, mediated by Oman, was scheduled for June 15.
Iran and the U.S. have so far held five rounds of indirect negotiations, with three rounds in Muscat and two in Rome, under the mediation of Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr Al-Busaidi.
The escalating regional tensions following the Israeli strikes have now cast doubt over the diplomatic process.
