The Punjab Transport Department has completed the feasibility study for the much-anticipated Yellow Line Electric Transit Project in Lahore. This initiative, directed by the Chief Minister of Punjab, aims to provide an affordable and eco-friendly transportation option to accommodate the city’s growing population.

The proposed Yellow Line will cover a 24-kilometer route stretching from Thokar Niaz Baig to Harbanspura. Once operational, it is expected to serve approximately 130,000 passengers daily, offering relief from traffic congestion on key city corridors and improving overall commuter convenience.

The project’s estimated cost stands at PKR 80 billion, with an expected completion timeline from September 2025 to June 2026. The detailed plan has been submitted to the Chief Minister’s Secretariat and awaits necessary approvals.

The Yellow Line will operate with 20 electric train sets to be imported from China, pending approval by the Punjab Cabinet and the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC). This project forms part of a broader provincial strategy that also includes ongoing work on the Blue Line and Purple Line mass transit systems, aimed at establishing an integrated urban rail network across Lahore.

These developments reflect the government’s commitment to reducing traffic congestion, lowering carbon emissions, and enhancing public transportation infrastructure in one of Pakistan’s largest cities.
