In a landmark step towards digital governance and regulatory reform, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has officially launched a state-of-the-art e-licensing system to modernise the licensing process for Pakistan’s oil and gas industry.
Developed in collaboration with the National IT Board (NITB), the platform represents a major digital transformation initiative aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, transparency, and investor confidence in the country’s energy sector.
The newly introduced system allows for complete digital processing of licenses across various energy segments, including Gas, LNG, CNG, LPG, refineries, and petroleum products. Stakeholders in both the midstream and downstream markets will now be able to apply for, renew, and track the status of their licenses online—eliminating the need for physical paperwork and in-person visits.
“This launch marks a significant milestone in our journey toward digital governance,” an OGRA spokesperson said. “By reducing red tape and enabling faster decision-making, the e-licensing platform enhances convenience for applicants while reinforcing the credibility and responsiveness of our regulatory framework.”
Key features of the platform include real-time application tracking, remote access from anywhere in the world, and a more transparent approval process. The move is expected to significantly reduce processing times and encourage greater private sector participation in Pakistan’s energy landscape.
The initiative also aligns with broader national objectives to improve energy security, attract foreign investment, and ensure regulatory readiness in a rapidly evolving global energy environment.
Authorities hope the successful implementation of the e-licensing system will serve as a model for other regulatory bodies in Pakistan to follow, advancing the government’s commitment to digital transformation and economic modernization.
