Amid heightened military tensions between Pakistan and India, the Indian media has come under fire for spreading war hysteria and crossing all limits of journalistic integrity, according to observers and public figures.
During the recent standoff, Indian news outlets repeatedly broadcast false and fabricated reports, sparking skepticism even among the Indian public, many of whom began to question the credibility of their own media.
Prominent Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha also condemned the Indian media’s sensationalist and aggressive coverage, accusing it of spreading misinformation and inciting war fervor. She criticized news anchors for violating journalistic principles and imposing personal opinions under the guise of news.
In particular, controversial anchor Arnab Goswami was called out for openly promoting war rhetoric on national television. When news of a ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan broke, Goswami refused to acknowledge it, dismissing it as unverified and objecting to U.S. President Donald Trump’s role in facilitating the truce.
Goswami questioned how Trump could claim credit for mediating peace when India had officially rejected U.S. intervention. He went on to say that President Trump lacked an understanding of the ground realities and that his statements were against India’s national interests.
In response to Trump’s announcement on his platform Truth Social, confirming that India and Pakistan had agreed to a ceasefire, Indian media – led by figures like Goswami – rejected the claim and instead insisted on airing the Indian government’s narrative, continuing to stoke tensions despite diplomatic developments.
