Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has initiated a new program under which the dairy industry in Punjab will be modernized as per the Italian model and with the help of Italy.
Under this initiative, Punjab will adopt Italy’s advanced dairy farming model, improving milk and cheese production while ensuring international standards for packaging and export.
A delegation of Italian dairy investors met with Senior Punjab Minister Maryam Aurangzeb and Livestock Minister Ashiq Hussain, discussing a plan to enhance dairy production, cooling technology, and distribution networks in Punjab.
In the first phase, a pilot project with 1,000 buffaloes will be launched in Pakpattan, Muzaffargarh, and Jhang. The plan includes high-breed buffalo farming, increased milk production & improved packaging, export-standard dairy processing, and state-of-the-art cooling & preservation machinery.
Maryam Aurangzeb highlighted the project’s economic benefits, stating, “A comprehensive dairy policy will be introduced soon, accelerating Punjab’s agricultural revolution after the olive farming success. This initiative will uplift small farmers and women, especially in flood-affected areas.”
With 15,000 livestock cards and an Rs 80 billion subsidy, Punjab’s agriculture sector is already witnessing significant growth. Additionally, affordable tractors and modern machinery are helping farmers improve productivity.
Italy, a global leader in agriculture and dairy production, will provide expertise and investment to develop Punjab’s dairy infrastructure.
Minister Ashiq Hussain briefed the Italian delegation on Punjab’s upcoming livestock projects, while Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb thanked the Italian investors for their support.
