A significant cut is expected in electricity prices for Karachi’s consumers this month. It was reported on Wednesday.
As per the details, K-Electric has applied to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to reduce power tariffs.
The company has sought a reduction of Rs4.95 per unit on account of fuel cost adjustment. If the application is approved, the electricity consumers in Karachi will get a relief of Rs4.94 billion, or a Rs.4.95 cut in per unit price.
The regulatory authority will conduct a hearing on the KE application on February 26.
It should be noted that inflated electricity bills are a big issue in the country as most consumers are unable to pay their utility bills, particularly in summer months when the consumption of power increases manyfold.
In the winter, the issue remained suppressed due to the low use of electricity in homes, however now as the summer is about to start the issue will again emerge with full intensity.
