The Utility Stores Corporation Employees Union had decided to hold a protest outside its head office located in Blue Area Islamabad at 2 pm for the reinstatement of terminated daily-wages employees.

The union warned the government that the entire utility stores would be shut if their demands were not met.

The employees said that protest demonstrations will be held outside press clubs across Pakistan.
The office-bearers further demanded that if the termination letters were not withdrawn, then they would decide their future strategy.

Earlier on Sunday, the government decided to lay off daily wage employees from utility stores across the country as part of its “rightsizing” policy
The move, which affects an estimated 2860 workers, was approved earlier by the Utility Stores Corporation (USC) board of directors.
According to sources, directives for terminating employees have already been issued by the respective zonal offices, signaling the start of the downsizing process.
