Karachi police to prepare a list of unsafe buildings

KARACHI: After a six-story building collapsed in Karachi on Monday, police authorities ordered the department to prepare a list of unsafe and dilapidated buildings in the city.
According to the sources, additional IG Karachi Ghulam Nabi Memon in an official order to the DIGs and SSPs directed them to prepare a list of overdue buildings in their respective areas. Orders were also given to the DSPs and SHOs on the subject.

The AIG also issued orders to police officers to send the approved list of hazardous buildings to the deputy commissioners of the concerned districts.
The order further said the list should also be provided to the involved departments and security office division.
It should be noted here that on Monday a building was titled down the at the area of Ranchore Road.
Reports said that questions about the project had been raised by the ex-assistant and deputy directors of SBCA, but the former DG SBCA allowed the contractor to build the multi-story building.

Earlier, a building collapsed on Monday afternoon at Karachi’s timber market which was built fifteen years ago.
