Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed relevant authorities to implement a world-class cargo scanning system in Karachi and other major trading hubs to address the smuggling issue in the country.
During a review meeting on the transit cargo and tracking system, the Prime Minister emphasized the need to replace outdated tracking, tracing, and scanning systems with newer technology-driven solutions.
He also called for third-party validation of the quality of cargo tracking services provided by various entities.
The Prime Minister highlighted the success of the improved tracking system in reducing smuggling significantly, noting that the measures taken helped facilitate a sugar export worth US$211 million to Afghanistan.
PM Shehbaz further stressed that, with an integrated communication system and enhanced cargo tracking, Pakistan could become the central hub for transit trade in the region.
The meeting was attended by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Khan Cheema, the Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), and other senior government officials.
