South Africa continued to dominate the second Test against Pakistan on Day 2, posting a massive total of 615 all out. The day started with Keshav Maharaj, who had made 40 runs, being dismissed on a team total of 614 by Khurram Shehzad.
According to a report by ARY News on Saturday, the final wicket fell when Kwena Maphaka was clean bowled by Mohammad Abbas for a duck, leaving South Africa with an imposing 615 total.
Pakistan’s reply began disastrously, with their top order failing to cope with the pressure. In just 21 overs, Pakistan found themselves at 20/3. The captain, Shan Masood, was dismissed early for just 2 runs, leaving Pakistan at 2/1.
Kamran Ghulam followed soon after, contributing 12 runs before his dismissal at a team score of 18. Saud Shakeel’s struggles continued as he was dismissed for a duck, making it 20/3 and further denting Pakistan’s hopes.
Babar Azam led the recovery with a gritty 31 runs, showing resistance under pressure. Mohammad Rizwan, who joined him at the crease, is still unbeaten on 9, as Pakistan ended the day trailing by 551 runs with seven wickets in hand.
The team will need a strong middle-order performance on Day 3 if they hope to make any headway against South Africa’s imposing total.
