As the country prepares to welcome the new year, First Lady Aseefa Bhutto Zardari has urged citizens to avoid the dangerous practice of aerial firing, which has often turned New Year celebrations into tragedies.
Daughter of President Asif Ali Zardari, Aseefa launched an awareness campaign on X with the hashtags #CelebrateResponsibly and #SayNoToAerialFiring. She called for a safer approach to ringing in 2025.
“When ushering in the New Year, remember to #CelebrateResponsibly,” Aseefa wrote, emphasising the dangers of celebratory gunfire. “Aerial firing is not just reckless — it’s deadly. Your stray bullet can end an innocent life, turning celebration into senseless tragedies,” she added.
The campaign has gained widespread support, with many netizens praising her efforts, resulting in hundreds of likes and reposts.
Senior Sindh minister Sharjeel Memon also echoed Aseefa’s appeal, urging the public to celebrate responsibly. He assured that the government was taking strict measures to prevent aerial firing and appealed to the public to support the administration in ensuring a safe environment.
In Karachi, the local administration has imposed Section 144, banning arms, aerial firing, and the use of fireworks for two days, promising stringent actions against violators.
In addition, Karachi Police have issued a stern warning to citizens about the dangers of celebratory firing on New Year’s Eve, stating that cases of attempted murder will be filed against violators.
