ISLAMABAD/LAHORE: All public and private educational institutions in Rawalpindi, Islamabad and Lahore will remain closed on December 16 to mark the Army Public School (APS) tragedy and the Fall of Dhaka in 1971.
A notification issued by the Islamabad administration said that all public and private schools will remain closed on December 16 (Monday) in Islamabad.
The Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner issued a notification announcing the closure of all schools in the district following the Punjab government’s directives.
In Lahore, the deputy commissioner confirmed that all public and private schools and colleges would remain closed on December 16, while universities will remain open.
The notification stated that the decision was made to honour the memory of the APS Peshawar martyrs and reflect on the historical significance of December 16, 1971, when the Fall of Dhaka occurred due to Indian aggression, leading to the separation of East Pakistan.
Deputy Commissioner Lahore emphasised the nation’s resolve to never forget the sacrifices of the APS martyrs, describing December 16, 2014, as a deeply painful tragedy.
“The martyrdom of children in the APS attack united the nation and made us stronger. Pakistan will soon achieve lasting peace,” he said.
