Former director general (DG) Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lieutenant General (retd) Faiz Hameed has been indicted on charges of engaging in political activities, violations of the Official Secret Act, and other charges, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Tuesday.
“The process of field general court-martial (FGCM) was initiated against Lt Gen (retd) Hamid under provisions of the Pakistan Army Act on August 12 and in the first place has been formally arraigned on charges of engaging in political activities, violations of Official Secret Act detrimental to safety and interest of the state, misuse of authority & government resources and causing wrongful loss to a person(s),” the military’s media wing said in a brief statement issued today.
Additionally, investigations are ongoing into his alleged involvement in promoting violence and civil unrest, including connections to the May 9 incidents and other disruptive activities. These incidents reportedly involve collaboration with political elements pursuing unlawful agendas, ISPR stated.
The ISPR emphasized that Lt. Gen. Faiz Hameed (R) is being granted all legal rights and protections as per the law throughout the proceedings.
Earlier in April, the Pakistan Army formed an inquiry committee to probe abuse of powers allegations against former spymaster.
The committee was constituted on the directives of the apex court and the defense ministry. The former ISI chief had been accused of misusing his powers regarding the housing society in Islamabad.
