The situation in Syria, a country facing a coup after a long time, is changing rapidly and the government of Bashar al-Assad is losing control of Syria with each passing moment.
It will be the fourth province to fall to opposition groups after Idlib, Aleppo and Hama, after opposition armed groups entered Homs, Syria’s third largest city.
Last month, on November 27, a startling development came to the Syrian scene when the Takfiri Tahrir al-Sham and its allied armed groups pulled out of Idlib and launched a massive attack on Syrian government army positions in the northwestern part of the country.
As a result, the Syrian army and the Iranian militias fighting alongside it withdrew from Aleppo province and it was fully controlled by the armed groups. A few days later, the Syrian army was also driven out of Hama province. The opposition groups then moved on to Homs. Within a few hours, large areas of the province were captured.

On the other hand, the Syrian Democratic Forces (Kurdish armed organization) took full control of the city of Deir al-Zour in the east of Syria. The development came after the sudden and surprise withdrawal from the city of the government army and the leadership of Tehran’s pro-Hamnoua groups that accompanied it.
The province of mainly al-Raqqa has been in the hands of Kurdish forces for years. In addition to Kurdish forces, Syrian government forces are also present in the province of al-Hasakah. They occupy a small area in the cities of al-Hasakah and al-Qamishli.
Bashar al-Assad’s forces control areas in the provinces of Tartus and Lazakia, in addition to Homs. The capital, Damascus, and the Damascus countryside are also under the control of government forces.
As for Daraa in the south of the country, it is completely out of the control of the Syrian army after being captured by local armed groups. The groups have seized control of Nawi City and several towns in addition to several rural areas in the province.
Sources told the Reuters news agency that the armed groups offered senior security and military officials working in the city safe passage to Damascus.
In the south, in al-Sweida on Friday, the city’s police and security leadership evacuated government institutions and centres. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the development came after local armed groups seized security checkpoints in the countryside.
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, more than 800 people have been killed so far. The armed groups announced that more than 65 soldiers and officers of the Syrian army were killed.
