The dismembered head of a young woman was discovered in an open drain in Orangi Town on Saturday, according to police reports.

According to a report by Dawn News on Sunday, SSP-West Tariq Illahi Mastoi stated that the head was found floating in the drain water in Qasba Colony, within the jurisdiction of Pirabad police station.

Upon receiving the information, police immediately arrived at the scene and transferred the head to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal procedures and potential identification. The Crime Scene Unit was also dispatched to collect evidence from the location, and further investigations are ongoing, with efforts to identify the victim.

SHO Imtiaz Mirjat shared that doctors confirmed the woman’s head had been severed with a sharp weapon. He noted that the murder likely took place on Saturday, and the head was discarded in the drain. Preliminary observations suggest the victim was in her mid-20s. The police are also conducting a search for the rest of the woman’s body.

Violence against women is prohibited under Pakistani law and Islamic Sharia, yet reports of violent crimes against women continue to surface at an alarming rate. Despite laws designed to protect women’s rights, there is a significant gap between legal frameworks and societal practices.
