The Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) has canceled Saturday’s holiday in the federal government-run educational institutions. A notification to this effect has been issued.
The decision was made due to the academic loss students faced during extended school closures, according to the notification. Starting tomorrow, Saturday will now be a working day in all federal educational institutions.
The new policy will be effective from November 30, 2024, to February 1, 2025, the notification added.
It should be noted that due to smog and protest of a political party schools and other educational institutions remained closed for several days this month.
Schools run under provincial governments across Pakistan have only one Sunday holiday in a week, while some private schools in the provinces also have two public holidays in a week, i.e. Saturday and Sunday.
It is not clear whether the government order will also be followed by the private schools of Islamabad or not.
