Internet and mobile services have been partially restored in Islamabad and Rawalpindi after Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) called off its protest in the federal capital, following a significant crackdown.
According to media reports citing sources within the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), the internet suspension was implemented on the instructions of the Interior Ministry due to security concerns.
In addition to mobile internet being disabled, social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp were blocked using a firewall. During the outage, users faced difficulties in downloading and uploading media files, disrupting communication.
PTA sources confirmed that while mobile internet services have resumed, access to social media platforms will remain restricted until a thorough assessment of the security situation is completed.
Wi-Fi and standard mobile network services were not affected, despite the disruption to mobile internet and social media. However, the prolonged suspension significantly impacted digital communication and operations for both local businesses and residents.
