The West Indies chased down 219 to defeat England by five wickets in the fourth T20 match. Shai Hope and Evin Lewis put on a quick 136-run opening partnership, with Hope scoring 54 from 24 balls and Lewis making 68 from 31 balls.
Together, they helped the West Indies reach their target in just 9.1 overs. However, the West Indies’ strong start was shaken when Lewis, Hope, and Nicholas Pooran were out in three balls in the 10th over. Captain Roston Chase then scored 38 from 23 balls to keep the chase alive, and Sherfane Rutherford finished it off with back-to-back sixes, winning the match with an over to spare.
There were 32 sixes in the match, with each team hitting 16. Hope explained that they had to understand the conditions better, which had been a problem in the earlier games. They focused on staying strong through the power play and not losing too many early wickets.
England had already won the series by winning the first three matches. In the match, after being asked to bat, Phil Salt and Jacob Bethell, both with Caribbean roots, scored quick half-centuries. Bethell made 62 from 32 balls, while Salt scored 55 from 35 balls. England posted 218-5, their highest total at the Darren Sammy Stadium.
The West Indies responded with a fast start, reaching 69-0 after the power play. Hope reached 50 from 23 balls, and they reached 100 in just 7.3 overs. Lewis was a bit slower at first but then hit big sixes, including one that traveled 105 meters. The opening partnership was 136 runs from 45 balls.
But after Lewis and Hope got out in quick succession, the West Indies were 136-3. Powell added 38 runs before being out, leaving the West Indies needing 21 from 18 balls. Rutherford then hit two sixes to finish the chase and secure the victory.
