The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has announced plans to enhance security in the northwestern province bordering Afghanistan by creating 1,356 new police positions, in response to a recent surge in militant attacks on law enforcement.
The chief minister’s office made the announcement on Wednesday following a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.
“In light of the current security situation, 1,356 new police posts of various ranks have been approved for the southern districts of KP,” stated the CM’s office. Of these, recruitment for 1,200 constables is nearing completion, with appointment letters to be issued soon.
The new hires will also include sub-inspectors, assistant sub-inspectors, and head constables. Additionally, the quota for the recruitment of children of slain police officers has been increased from 5% to 12.5%.
Moreover, the procurement of vehicles worth Rs802 million has been initiated for the KP Police, including 34 double-cabins, 15 single-cabins, 30 other single-cabins, and 15 motorcycles, with all vehicles already purchased.
