Bangladesh secured a thrilling victory over Pakistan in the semi-final of the SAFF Under-17 Championship in Thimphu on Saturday, advancing to the final.
The match ended 2-2 after regular time, with Bangladesh equalizing dramatically in the fifth minute of stoppage time through substitute Mohammad Manik.
Pakistan had taken control earlier in the game, with Mohammad Shahab Ahmed opening the scoring in the 32nd minute, followed by Abdur Rahman’s successful penalty conversion in the 62nd minute, giving them a 2-0 lead.
Bangladesh launched a spirited comeback, scoring in the 74th and 94th minutes to level the score, forcing the match into a penalty shootout. Both teams flawlessly converted their first five penalties, bringing the score to 7-7.
The decisive moment came when Bangladesh’s substitute goalkeeper Alif Rahman Imtiaz made a crucial diving save to deny Pakistan’s Abdul Ghani. Ashikur Rahman then netted the winning penalty, sending Bangladesh to the final for the second consecutive time.
