An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Islamabad has issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and three other politicians on terrorism charges related to vandalism at the Islamabad Judicial Complex. However, the Peshawar High Court has issued an order preventing Gandapur’s arrest until October 5.
ATC Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra issued the arrest warrants during hearings connected to the events of May 9. Alongside Gandapur, non-bailable arrest warrants were also issued for former Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker Wasiq Qayyum Abbasi, Istehkam-e-Pakistan leader Aamer Mehmood Kiani, and PTI leader Raja Rashid Hafeez.
In denying Gandapur’s bail request, Judge Sipra remarked that relief could not be granted repeatedly without just cause.
Gandapur’s lawyer informed the court that the chief minister could not attend due to road closures, requesting another opportunity for his client to appear. The judge, however, reminded the lawyer that the previous hearing had already been scheduled at Gandapur’s convenience, but he failed to show up.
The court adjourned the case until October 3.
