Amna Baloch, a Grade-22 officer in the Foreign Service of Pakistan, has been appointed as the new Foreign Secretary of Pakistan, with her tenure set to begin on September 11, 2024.
Baloch is currently serving as Pakistan’s Ambassador to the European Union, Belgium, and Luxembourg. Before this, she held the position of High Commissioner of Pakistan in Malaysia.
Her distinguished diplomatic career includes several key roles. She served as Consul General of Pakistan in Chengdu, China, where she managed consular services and diplomatic relations in southwestern China. In Colombo, Sri Lanka, she was the Minister Counsellor at the Pakistan High Commission, focusing on bilateral relations and regional issues.
Baloch also worked as Joint Secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office and as Additional Secretary in the Foreign Minister’s office, contributing to high-level policy formulation and international relations.
Baloch holds a master’s degree in history and joined the Pakistan Foreign Service in 1991. Her career reflects a commitment to advancing Pakistan’s interests on the global stage.
She is married and has two daughters. As she steps into her role as Foreign Secretary, Baloch will become only the second female to hold this position in Pakistan’s history, following Tehmina Janjua. Her appointment highlights her extensive experience and significant contributions to Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts.
