Cambridge International Education (CIE) has decided not to award marks for the A-level Mathematics paper to Pakistani students following a leak of the exam paper online earlier this year. The decision affects the Mathematics Paper 12, which was leaked on May 2, 2024.
In response to the leak, CIE has issued a report stating that students will receive marks based on their performance in other papers. Those affected by the leak can retake the Mathematics paper in November 2024, with no additional fee for the retake.
The investigation into the leak began on May 3, when social media users reported that the A-Level Mathematics Paper 12 had surfaced online before the scheduled exam. This led to widespread concern among students and parents about the potential damage to the exam’s transparency and integrity.
In light of these concerns, CIE issued a statement addressing the issue: “We are looking into concerns raised about a potential paper leakage on May 2, 2024, for AS Level Mathematics 9709 Paper 12.” The statement confirmed that the matter is under investigation and that Cambridge is in close communication with the British Council to resolve the issue.
