Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Chief Minister of Punjab, is set to launch the distribution of solar panels across the province starting on August 14, Independence Day, as per an official statement.
Recently, the provincial cabinet decided that households consuming up to 200 units of electricity would receive solar panels free of charge under the “Roshan Gharana” program. Those consuming between 200 to 500 units would pay only 10% of the total cost, with the Punjab government covering the remaining 90%.
Interest-free loans will be available to consumers, repayable over five years, to facilitate solar panel installations. The distribution methodology has been finalized, the statement added.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif emphasized that installing solar panels would reduce electricity bills by 40% for consumers. She reaffirmed her commitment to providing significant relief to the people, even under challenging circumstances.
This initiative follows the Punjab government’s recent announcement of a comprehensive plan to distribute free solar panels and offer subsidized loans for solar installations, tailored to consumers based on their electricity usage.
