LAHORE: The contempt of court petition against Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will be heard in the High Court today.
Justice Muhammad Waheed Khan will hear the petition regarding the Prime Minister’s use of ‘derogatory words’ about judges.
In the petition, the Federal Government has been named as the respondent through the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister.
In a petition filed by female lawyer Ashba Kamran, contempt of court action has been demanded against Shehbaz Sharif for allegedly using inappropriate words about judges.
It should be noted that Shehbaz Sharif had called some judges ‘black sheep’ for allegedly giving relief to former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who was imprisoned in various cases.
He apparently became emotional while addressing the Pakistan Muslim League (N) General Council meeting on May 28, in which his elder brother Nawaz Sharif was re-elected as party president. Shehbaz Sharif said that some black sheep of the judiciary are bent on giving relief to Imran Khan.
The Supreme Court, hearing intra-court appeals for the first time against its September 15 majority judgment on Thursday, also noted his remarks about the judiciary, which had declared the amendment to the National Accountability Ordinance illegal.
