KARACHI: Tragedy struck a family of five brothers that owned an ice cream parlour when assailants on three motorcycles opened fire on their vehicle near Karachi’s Gurumandir area on Thursday. Two brothers lost their lives in the attack, while two others sustained severe injuries.
According to Aleena Rajpar, the Superintendent of Police for Jamshed Quarter, the incident appears to be a targeted killing. The victims, identified as brothers, were en route to the city court for a hearing when they were ambushed.
Police investigations revealed that the attackers fired at least 17 9mm rounds before fleeing the scene. The shell casings recovered have been sent for forensic analysis as part of the ongoing investigation.
The injured brothers were rushed to a private hospital for treatment, where sadly, two of them succumbed to their injuries. The other two brothers remain in critical condition, with one of them fighting for his life. Remarkably, one brother miraculously survived the assault, as confirmed by police authorities.
Earlier on April 21, a middle-aged businessman was shot and killed outside his affluent Defence Housing Authority (DHA) home by what are purported to be his buddy and relative.
The victim was struck by gunshots several times by the attacker. The 45-year-old victim, known only as Humayun, passed away instantly, and Hammam Javed, his friend, was also slightly hurt in the attack.
