ISLAMABAD: Pakistan endured a crushing 0-7 defeat against Jordan during their FIFA World Cup 2026 Round 2 Qualifier, held away at the Amman International Stadium this Wednesday.
This match constituted the fourth round of Group Seven contests within the Asian qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
Announcing the match results, the Pakistan Football Federation expressed their disappointment, labeling it as a “Defeat in Amman.” The match saw Jordan’s Musa Al-Taamari achieving a hat-trick with goals in the first, fourth, and sixth minutes. Additionally, Yazan Al-Naimat secured the second goal through a penalty kick, while Saad Al-Rousan contributed a third goal for the Jordanian team. Ali Alwan extended the lead by scoring in the 75th minute, followed by Muhammad Abu Zureiq, who sealed the seventh goal.
This triumph propels Jordan to second place in Group Seven of the Asian qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, accumulating a total of seven points. Consequently, two teams from the group will progress to the third round, while the remaining two sides will participate in the Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers.
In a previous encounter last Thursday, Jordan dominated Pakistan with a 3-0 victory at the Jinnah Stadium in Islamabad, marking Jordan’s first football match visit to Pakistan in 18 years. Pakistan’s journey in the qualifiers has been characterized by a mix of successes and setbacks. While they secured a historic 1-0 win against Cambodia in October, marking their first-ever FIFA World Cup qualifier victory in Islamabad, they faced a harsh 4-0 defeat against Saudi Arabia in the subsequent round.
