Czech Republic’s Krystyna Pyszkova was crowned Miss World 2024 on Saturday, winning the top prize in the 71st edition of the pageant held this year in India.
Krystyna edged out Yasmina Zaytoun of Lebanon, Ache Abrahams of Trinidad and Tobago, and Lesego Chombo of Botswana.
Pyszkova becomes the second Miss World from the Czech Republic since Tatana Kucharova’s victory in the 2006 pageant.
Described on the official Miss World website as a Czech model, Pyszkova is currently pursuing degrees in both law and business administration.
In her twenties, Pyszkova is also known for establishing the Krystyna Pyszko Foundation, focusing on sustainable development through education. Fluent in English, Polish, Slovak, and German, she has dedicated herself to advocating for underprivileged children, notably opening an English school in Tanzania where she has volunteered.
Her passions extend beyond philanthropy; she is skilled in playing the transverse flute and the violin, with a profound appreciation for music and art fostered during her nine years at an art academy.
Meanwhile, India, the host country after a 28-year hiatus, was represented by 22-year-old Sini Shetty.
Born in Mumbai, Shetty claimed the title of Femina Miss India World in 2022 but fell short of reaching the top 4 in the competition.
India has a notable history in the Miss World pageant, having secured the prestigious title six times through Reita Faria (1966), Aishwarya Rai Bachchan (1994), Diana Hayden (1997), Yukta Mookhey (1999), Priyanka Chopra Jonas (2000), and Manushi Chillar (2017).
