Following Maryam Nawaz’s nomination for the position of Chief Minister of Punjab, there are circulating reports indicating that she is being accorded the status of Chief Minister even before her formal election in the assembly.
However, PML-N has refuted the reports.
The party’s spokesperson, Marriyum Aurangzeb, took to social media to dismiss news suggesting that Maryam Nawaz was receiving chief minister-level protocol and enhanced security.
A news report had initially asserted that Maryam Nawaz was allocated ‘two bulletproof cars, four police squad vehicles, a traffic wardens’ pilot, and one signal jammer vehicle,’ with the entire squad already stationed at her residence. Contrary to these claims, the PML-N maintains that such reports are false.
There have been additional reports stating that Maryam Nawaz received briefings from the province’s chief secretary and inspector general, fueling speculation about her potential role. While Nawaz Sharif has reportedly withdrawn from the race for prime minister in favor of his younger brother, Shehbaz Sharif, Maryam will be the party’s candidate for the position of Punjab’s Chief Minister—a role previously held by both Nawaz and Shehbaz.
The PML-N, with 138 seats in the Punjab assembly, has further solidified its position by gaining the support of several independently-elected candidates. As the political landscape unfolds, the question remains whether Maryam Nawaz has truly started enjoying the status of Chief Minister or if these speculations are premature.
