Pakistan’s first astronaut to fly national flag in space this year

Namira Salim will proudly fly the national flag high in space before the end of this year as the first Pakistani astronaut aboard Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic, the First private space-line of the world.

Salim’s space ambitions began in 2008 when she made history by presenting the first national flag sent to space to former Prime Minister (PM) Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani. This momentous occasion took place during the EU-Pakistan Summit in Brussels in June 2010.

As Namira Salim gets ready to launch into space aboard a spacecraft owned by Virgin Galactic, her ascent represents Pakistan’s expanding involvement in space exploration and represents a major victory for the country.

Within the Virgin Group, Virgin Galactic is a spaceflight business that aspires to offer space travelers suborbital spaceflights.
