West Indies faces elimination from World Cup qualifiers

KARACHI: Former world champions West Indies have been eliminated from the World Cup qualifiers.

In the qualifier round of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, the Netherlands defeated the two-time world champions West Indies in a super over after a nerve-wracking match.

In the match against the Netherlands, West Indies scored 374 runs for 6 wickets, Nicholas Pooran scored 104 not out and Brendan King managed to score 76 runs, Zulfikar took 2 wickets, and in response the Dutch XI scored 374 runs for 9 wickets. Teja Nidamanuru scored 111 and Edwards played an inning of 67 runs, Ruston Chase took 3 catches.

Logan Van Beek’s batting charge in the over saw the Netherlands score 30 runs without losing a wicket, leaving the opposition 8 for 2.

Earlier, Zimbabwe won their fourth consecutive group victory, the host XI posted a mammoth total of 408 for 6 in the allotted 50 overs, Sean Williams scored 174 runs off 101 balls, wicketkeeper Joy Lord Gombe scored 78 runs, Sikandar Raza played an inning of 48 runs off 27 balls, Ryan Brill scored 47 runs off 16 balls, the American batting line was scattered for 104 runs in 25.1 overs, Richard N. Gariva and Sikandar Raza took 2, 2 wickets, three batters were run out.
