The game of police-thieves is ongoing under the present Shehbaz Sharif government. How times have changed, the politicians who once paraded around like royalty under previous Prime Minister Imran Khan now hide like thieves.
After engaging in a successful game of cat and mouse with the present caretaker administration, Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, the former chief minister of Punjab, was eventually apprehended by the Punjab Police. The issue with the PTI leaders and workers is that the government detains them as soon as the court authorises their release.
The issue of why the assembly members are hiding may now cross the readers’ minds. The current prime minister Shehbaz Sharif, his elder brother Nawaz Sharif, and other National League and PDM leaders had a reputation of being thieves during the PTI era. The former ministers are now, however, skulking like burglars.
The truth is that Imran Khan and PTI leaders have been held accountable for the very serious crime of targeting GHQ, Jinnah House, and Radio Pakistan facilities. The party cannot end, according to Imran Khan, until my vote bank is still behind me. But what if the investigation reveals that the PTI leaders were encouraging the attacks? Will the Tehreek-e-Insaf be banned forever?
The way television stations have been airing videos of purported PTI worker assaults on Jinnah House or other structures may infuriate the populace and shift the tide against Tehreek-e-Insaf. And that might instantly reduce Imran Khan’s support base to zero.
The Tehreek-e-Insaf has a very simple method for expressing its distance from all the workers and leaders who took part in the attack on Jinnah House while maintaining its support base. But we live in the age of social media. Because the truth cannot always be concealed, both Imran Khan and his opponents should be terrified. Those who are hiding might rise to power once more tomorrow. However, gaining power is not everything. Fear the day the truth will be revealed because those who desecrated Jinnah House will be punished then.
