In 2022, digital currency crypto investors were the most defrauded, with currency-related crimes increasing by 58 percent.
According to a report by Amunify, cryptocurrency investor losses were $2.3 billion in 2021, rising to $3.7 billion in 2022. The report states that illicit cryptocurrency activity will reach an all-time high of $20.1 billion in 2022, an increase of $2.1 billion from the previous year.

The reason for the increase in crime is the restrictions imposed by the United States on digital currency. The report also states that most of the crimes are committed through hacking while the rest are committed through fraud. Last year, 134 hacking incidents were reported.
